Information and indicators to support good choices about home care services

Background

When people need home care, they often find the system confusing and difficult to navigate. It can be hard to understand how to access care, what financial help is available, what quality of care to expect, and how safe the care will be. While some information exists—like ratings on care quality—it’s unclear how helpful it really is or if better information could be provided.

Research

This project will look at what information is currently available and how useful it is to people making care decisions. We’ll also explore whether new types of information could make things clearer and more helpful.

We’ll do this by reviewing existing guidance, talking to people who need care and those who work in the care system and analysing how care choices are influenced by quality and safety ratings.

Intended Impact

The findings will help policy makers understand what’s working, what’s missing and how to improve the information available to support better decision-making.
